Selfies and sweat during member appreciation week
From supergreen shish kebabs to shamrocker fitness challenges to selfie stations, the Gleason Family YMCA kept its member appreciation week healthy and hip.
Maria Golemo and another Y employee were among the first to take advantage of the selfie station, set up by the entrance. The station offered a variety of hats, including mini devil horns and a pirate hat, as well as several masks, wigs and eyeglasses.
“How do my bangs look?” Golemo's selfie compatriot asked her, as she flipped a blue wig onto her head.
The week was budgeted into the year, Senior Wellness Director Lu Brito said, and the facility doesn’t increase member prices to put on the week. Additionally, regardless of what the members chose to do this week – whether it was picking up a grape-kiwi shish kebab or jumping around in a sweaty St. Patrick’s Day-themed workout – it didn’t cost anything for them to participate.
“We want to let our members know how much we appreciate them being members,” Brito said.
