Senior Expo connects Wareham residents to resources

Oct 23, 2018

Knowing who to turn to for financial help and medical advice can be intimidating for seniors and their families. The first Senior Expo at Wareham Council on Aging aimed to take some stress out of that equation.

Sponsored by Gateway Senior Resources, the Tuesday afternoon event featured several local vendors specializing in everything from assisted living to rehabilitation care and hospice. Gateway to Senior Resources is a group of professional service providers which hosts different outreach events each month to help educate and meet the needs of the senior community and their families.

“We’re a one stop shop,” said President Tabitha Tripp. “A lot of times people don’t know where to start looking for the resources they need, so our goal is to create a small, intimate setting where seniors can chat with professionals one-on-one.”

Alice Aitchinson of Gateway Adult Center was one of many volunteers present at the expo to answer questions about adult daycare services.

“We have a wonderful program,” Aitchinson said. “But without events like this, people might not even know we exist.”

Also in attendance was Ann Marie Dunn, a member of the Senior Center’s Board of Directors. Dunn attended the expo to show support for the event and to gather information for aging family members.

“We need people to know there’s an active senior center in town,” Dunn said. “We have a lot to offer, and this event is just one of them.”
