Separate incidents result in weapons charges for three men
Three men were arrested on various weapons charges in two separate incidents Friday, Jan. 4, and Sunday, Jan. 6.
A number of illegal weapons were recovered during the unrelated incidents, including an assault rifle, a handgun, and over 100 rounds of ammunition, according to Wareham Police.
On Sunday, Jan. 6, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to a report of a domestic assault at 41 Lakeshore Drive in Wareham. John Rams Sr., 61, was arrested for assaulting his 21-year-old daughter, according to police.
Officer Blaise Lalli and Detective Michael Smith obtained a search warrant for the home and found an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun, more than 100 rounds of “assorted ammunition,” police said. The weapons were not involved in the assault.
Rams is charged with with assault and battery, possession of a firearm without a firearms identification (FID) card, possession of a large capacity firearm without an FID card, improper storage of a firearm, and possession of ammunition without an FID card, according to police.
Rams is being held without bail according to the Wareham District Court clerk's office.
At approximately 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, police pulled over 22-year-old Donta Hood of Brockton for speeding on Cranberry Highway in East Wareham. Officers James White and Daniel Henderson “noticed a handgun under the front seat and within reach," police said.
The officers recovered a .25 caliber handgun from the car and arrested both Hood and his passenger, 44-year-old Wareham resident John Thomas. Both men were charged with possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.
Thomas was also charged with violating the firearms laws with a prior violent or drug crime on his criminal record, due to a 1996 arrest for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon -- a pool cue, according to police.
According to the clerk's office, Thomas is being held on $2,000 bail. Hood posted $500 bail, then defaulted on his arraignment. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
