Sewer Commission to give update on Swifts Beach project

Recently-elected Sewer Commission Chair Bernard Pigeon and local businessman Danny Warren will give an update on the currently-stalled replacement of sewer lines in the Swifts Beach neighborhood at the Swifts Beach Community Center, 38 Pleasant St., on Thursday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m.
For months, residents of Swifts Beach have sparred with the Sewer Commission over the project, the necessity of which became clear when a sewer line on Wankinquoah Avenue collapsed in 2016.
The town planned to replace the gravity sewer system with an electric low-pressure sewer system. This would have required the installation of 130 household sewage-grinding pumps, at neighborhood homeowners’ expense.
After an enormous outcry, the Sewer Commission decided to delay the project until after Labor Day. In April, Town Meeting unanimously voted to recommend against the replacement of the sewer line.
