WAREHAM – Shirley A. Smarowski, 84, of Wareham passed away on February 28,2023, at Bourne Manor Extended Care.

She was the daughter of the late Stanley Smarowski and Madeline (Goyette) Durante.

She was born in Schenectady, NY and lived in Wareham for most of her life.

She graduated from Wareham High School, class of 1956.
Shirley worked as a telephone operator for many years, retiring from AT& T.

After retirement she worked for APS Medical Billing in Wareham for many years.

Shirley loved her family and her friends.

She made herself available always for those in need.

She cared deeply for her animals, most of which she rescued herself. She played a vital role in rescuing cats around Wareham and finding them shelter.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Marrianne Rosario and her husband, Richard of East Weymouth, Regina Matthews of Wareham, Jana Hennessey and her husband Mark of Wareham, David Smarowski of Wareham and Melissa Smarowski of Wareham; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Moniz of Rochester; her great nieces and great nephews, Nicole Matthews and her husband Jordan Torres of Wareham, Benjamin Matthews and his fiance, Tara of Wareham, Grace Rosario of Kingston, Madeline Hennessey of Wareham, Christopher Rosario of East Weymouth, Abigail Hennessey of Wareham and Julianne Matthews of Wareham; 4 great great nephews, Trevor, Jace, Meech, and Myles; also survived by many extended family members and wonderful, loving friends.

She was predeceased by her brother, David Smarowski and her beloved sister-in-law, Sandra Smarowski.

Her funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
