Shoppers help stuff police cruisers during toy drive

Dec 10, 2016

Within an hour, an entire police cruiser was filled with stuffed animals, toys, bikes, board games, and other Christmas gifts during the annual Stuff-a-Cruiser toy drive.

Conveniently parked in front of Wal-Mart and Target, officers from the Wareham Police Department collected donations for the Dick Melloni Youth Foundation Christmas Toy Drive for distribution to children in need throughout Wareham and surrounding areas.

Officers Karl Baptiste, Ashley O'Brien and Matt Donovan had already filled an entire cruiser within an hour of being outside of Wal-Mart. Shoppers would go in and drop new toys on their way out.

"People are asking what we need," said O'Brien. "A lot of people are getting things from inside the store."

The drive happens once a year, and Baptiste remembers having done it for at least seven years now.

Stuff-a-Cruiser began at 10 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m.
