No need to go down south to hear the blues.
The Dudley L. Brown VFW Post 2846, 4 Gibbs Ball Park Road, will hold a Blues Picnic on Saturday, July 22 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Blues greats Willie J. Laws, Cheryl Arena, Gil D. Correia and Toni L. Washington will headline the event, which will also feature food and vendors.
Correia, a Wareham native, started playing guitar when he was 42 years old and released his first album at age 55. His band is a staple of the annual Onset Blues Festival.
Laws bills himself as a “Texas guitar gunslinger” who has performed across America and the world, including two tours in Russia.
Arena is a Boston-based harmonica virtuoso who has toured internationally in her 30-year career.
Washington, still performing at the age of 85, is a North Carolina native whose career has spanned seven decades. Now based in Boston, she has been nominated for seven Blues Music Awards and won the Boston Blues Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
The picnic will take place rain or shine.
Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance before Monday, July 10 and $15 if purchased the day of the event.
