Sleigh what? Annual Christmas parade brings holiday cheer
Christmas music hits and the sounds of jingle bells could be heard all throughout Wareham… alongside the blaring horns from emergency vehicles.
The Wareham Village Association's annual Christmas parade brought the holiday spirit down Route 6 and onto Main Street Saturday, Dec. 6.
While many lined the roads waiting to catch a glimpse of Santa, parade participants like Jessica, Jada and Giselle Teixeira prepared to march with their floats. The trio were with Wild Flower Floral Design.
Jessica, who could see only straight ahead in her yeti costume, said her favorite part about the parade was seeing everybody together.
"Seeing all the happy faces is good— it's just the whole thing. It's Christmas, you know?" she said.
Other businesses like Jack Conway opted to celebrate from the sidelines rather than prance in the parade. Offering a hot chocolate bar and a letters to Santa station to parade attendees, the real estate office reeled in kids like Alyssa Sehroeder and and Charlotte Sullivan.
The pair are best friends and were busy making their Christmas lists. Alyssa said she thinks she will get most of what she asked for— shortening the letter to Santa by a few dozen gifts.
"I have a long ways to go still— I'm still writing," she said. "I'm at like, 100."
Charlotte said she was excited to show Alyssa the parade for the first time, having attended many herself.
"I'm looking forward to seeing all the bright colors and festivity," she said.
From fire trucks to roller blades, many local businesses and organizations brought the community together to be festive. Many Warehamites wandered the streets decked out in Santa hats, their finest holiday pajamas and a whole lot of red and green.
Parade-goers like Annabelle and Isla Bruillard couldn't contain their Christmas spirit before the entrants started down the street. The sisters could be found as they waited to see some friends walk in the parade.
"I already saw someone from school," Isla said.
Both said they believe they're on the nice list this year and hope they get everything they asked for. While getting presents is a highlight of the season, for Annabelle it's more than just the gifts.
"I like to hang out with my family," Annabelle said.
