So far, so safe for Wareham residents during storms
Three storms in six days make for a tough start to February.
Monday’s storm did not wreak havoc on Wareham, but kept safety officials on their toes.
“We didn’t have anything to out of the normal calls,” said Raymond Goodwin, Onset Fire Department acting chief. “Knock on wood – we’ve been pretty lucky so far.”
Monday’s initial storm had the Onset Fire Department blowing and shoveling snow so it would not pile up as Wednesday morning’s storm rolled in.
“We’re just trying to prep for Wednesday and then Sunday,” said Goodwin.
Wednesday’s storm brought a mixture of snow, sleet and rain. Snow amounted to about 4 inches.
“It’s been a normal so far – knock on wood,” said Patrick Haskell, Wareham Fire Department assistant chief. “We’ve responded to no storm-related incidents.”
Schools were closed on Wednesday, though, and Town Hall offices had a delayed opening.
A winter storm warning was in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Sunday's weather brought a light coating of snow overnight, making a late night drive difficult. However, Monday morning's commute appeared unaffected.
