During a July 13 meeting, the Select Board unanimously voted to create a Solar Bylaw Study Committee. The committee will work to update the town’s existing solar bylaws — a task many residents have said the town should undertake, given the increasing number of solar projects in Wareham. 

The formation of the committee comes after voters at the June 12 Town Meeting unanimously approved a citizens’ petition article that limited the size and location of new solar fields. 

Proponents said the restrictions were designed to act as a temporary stop-gap to curb solar projects, allowing the town time to update its existing solar bylaw. Information about how to apply to join the committee will soon be available on the town’s website at www.wareham.ma.us.
