Stabbing suspect back in court
An Onset man charged with stabbing a South Plymouth man at a June 9 party was back in court Monday. His case was continued to August 14.
Eighteen-year-old Dominick Alves of 291 Onset Ave., Apartment C, is being held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail and is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of simple assault after he allegedly stabbed 22-year-old John Roche.
According to reports filed in Wareham District Court, witnesses say that Alves was at a party at 9 Shawnee Drive when he and his friend were asked to leave. A witness claims to have seen Alves strike Roche’s father, before delivering a blow to Roche that sent him to the ground.
Alves allegedly pulled out a knife and made slashing motions in the direction of Roche’s back, according to court documents.
The witness went on to state in police reports that a crowd formed around the men and they couldn’t be seen for about 15 seconds. At that point, Alves allegedly fled the scene.
Just a couple of days before the stabbing, Alves spoke at his graduation from the Wareham Jr./Sr. Cooperative School, where he thanked his teachers for not giving up on him.
