Stacey Ann (Sylvia) Duggan, 80
Stacey Ann (Sylvia) Duggan, 80, of Buzzards Bay, passed away peacefully at her loving home on January 18, 2025 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her husband, John, of almost 57 years, and her daughters, Erin and Katy.
Stacey was born and raised in Taunton, Massachusetts. She attended County Street School and still spoke to dear friends from the class of 1958. She graduated from Taunton High School in 1962. Stacey attended Catherine Laboure’ School of Nursing after high school. She spent her summers in Onset and in the summer of 1967, she met the love of her life John, who resided in Bourne and were married on May 11, 1968. They purchased a home on Bumps Pond and have resided there for 58 years. She was fond of living across from the pond and spoke about it frequently as she loved her home and it brought her much joy as she made many memories with her husband, daughters and friends. Stacey was a stay at home Mom and loved being involved in her daughters lives. She always said she was the “disciplinarian” and John was the “softie”. She would tell you she could hear the grass grow, she was always waiting up when you came home late and she always said exactly what was on her mind, whether you liked it or not. She enjoyed attending all of her daughters' games and activities. She took delight in traveling to many places with her family including Florida, Pennsylvania and Virginia. She was a member of the Bourne Jr. Women’s Club and assisted in running a Brownie troop. Stacey had many part-time jobs over the years including Friendly’s, Christmas Tree Shops, Walmart and the famous Betty Ann’s. Stacey was an avid crafter and painter. She proudly displayed all of her crafts and paintings in her home. Stacey’s greatest joy was when her daughters had her three beautiful grandchildren. She loved being a “Mamie” to Clare and a “Nana” to Nathan and Kenzie. She talked about her grandchildren all of the time and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. She babysat them, read to them, traveled with them and played with them endlessly.
During the last few weeks of her life, Stacey was still as sharp as a tack, had an amazing memory and continued to give orders. As sick as she was she also showed much love in her heart and care for those that loved her.
Stacey was predeceased by her and John’s infant daughter, Kerry Ann Duggan, and her parents, Marion G. (Maloney) Sylvia and her husband, Gordon A. Sylvia, of Taunton and Onset MA. Stacey leaves behind her husband, John E. Duggan, four months shy of 57 years, her two children, Erin Wurlitzer of Buzzards Bay, MA and Katy Demers of Lawrence, MA and her three grandchildren Clare Wurlitzer, Nathan Demers and Kenzie Demers.
Her husband and her daughters would like to especially thank Stephanie Fischer of Elder Services of Cape Cod, South Coast Hospice at Home Nurses, Meaghan, Jodie, Lynn and Lisa and her special caregivers Rita Mattos and Debbie Destefano for their amazing care.
