State official who parked in handicapped spot identified and disciplined
The state official who illegally parked in a handicapped spot on Main Street last Wednesday was identified and "disciplined appropriately by his supervisor" according to State rep. Susan Williams Gifford Friday morning.
The name of the man and what the discipline handed down was, could not be revealed by Gifford, as she said she "was not given that information as this is an employee personnel matter."
According to a Main Street businessperson, a man driving a black SUV with the Massachusetts state seal, and the words "public safety"emblazoned on side, pulled into a handicapped spot around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The businessperson said the man, who also had the word "Supervisor" written on the side of his car, was told he was parked in a handicapped spot. The man then allegedly looked at the businessperson, turned, and walked away.
"It really irked me," said resident Jay Heard, who took a picture of the parked truck, but was not there at the time of the incident. "The guy parked in the spot could have just backed up eight feet into a legal spot."
The businessperson said there were plenty of other parking spaces available up and down Main Street, and that the car was parked for more than an hour.
Heard said he shared his photo with state Rep. Susan Williams Gifford and was happy with her response.
"She seemed to be genuinely outraged," he said.
Gifford said in an email last week that she forwarded the information to the Legislative Liason in the Governor's office. On Friday, she said that the man had been disciplined.
"I do appreciate that this matter was brought to my attention by concerned citizens so it could be addressed," Gifford said.
