The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is proposing a project to replace the Mill Pond Dam.

According to the Department of Transportation, the dam, located near the Elks Lodge underneath Cranberry Highway, would be replaced to allow more water to pass through the dam and create an easier passageway for migrating aquatic animals.

The estimated project cost would be just under $40 million which is payed for by the state. The project would also consist of the installment of two sidewalks and a bike path along Cranberry Highway.

The state explained the proposed project would take three to four years to complete and for most of the project, two lanes of traffic will be maintained. But during certain phases of construction between fall and winter, traffic would be cut down to one lane.

The state added access to all surrounding businesses would still be maintained still be available during construction.

The Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual information meeting Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. to present the proposed design for the project.
