Street closures in Onset for fireworks celebration
The Wareham Police Department will be closing the streets leading into Onset Canter for the fireworks display on Saturday evening, July 2. The rain date will be Saturday, July 9.
The Onset Pier will be closed at 6:00 p.m. and reserved for handicapped parking. Limited handicapped parking is available in the designated area on the Bluffs.
Onset Center will be closed to through traffic at 7:00 p.m. After 7:00 p.m. only residents with proper identification and/or handicapped access will be allowed inside the Onset Center area.
Onset Avenue will be blocked at Tenth Street on the north side of Onset Center and East Boulevard on the south side. Union Avenue will be blocked between Onset Avenue and C. W. Bishop.
Onset Center will be closed to all vehicular traffic at 8:00 p.m. including handicapped access.
As in the past, every effort will be made to cause minimal inconvenience to residents of the area.
Chief Richard Stanley’s goal is for everyone to enjoy a safe and happy Fourth of July. He is reminding everyone that public drinking is not allowed anywhere in the Town of Wareham and will not be tolerated.
Additionally, it is illegal for private citizens to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Massachusetts or to purchase them elsewhere and then transport them into the state. Fireworks will be confiscated by police and individuals charged accordingly.
The Wareham Police Department is also reminding everyone to arrive early in order to find a parking spot.
