Student awarded Donald M. and Janet C. Barnard Fellowship

Keelin Quirk, daughter of Wareham residents Norma Scogin and Sherry Quirk, has been awarded the Donald M. and Janet C. Barnard Fellowship by the University of Rochester for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The fellowship, which goes to a second or third-year Ph.D. student in the engineering or natural science disciplines, recognizes outstanding academic and research achievement as well as evidence of leadership, mentoring and teaching accomplishments, engagement with the field and outreach to the community.

Quirk is pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering with research focusing on the movement of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. She graduated summa cum laude from Mount Holyoke College in 2020 with a degree in physics and a minor in math and received a master of research degree in biofluid mechanics from the University of Strathclyde in 2021.
