Students compete at DECA International Career Development Conference

May 3, 2011

None of the 11 Wareham High School students advanced past the first round of competition at DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida Tuesday.

While, the DECA team didn't move on to the next round they will celebrate the accomplishment of making it to the international competition with a trip to Disney World, Universal Studios, and by lounging by the pool.

The students have been preparing all year in hopes of qualifying for the competition. Over the weekend students completed a written exam and two oral interviews.

The students left on Friday morning and will return Thursday with their two advisors.

The DECA International Career Development Conference is the largest DECA event of the year. Fourteen thousand high school students, advisors, businesspersons and alumni gather for the competition. Most participants compete in one of DECA's events.

The top competitors in each event are recognized for their outstanding achievements. In addition to the competitive events, many students and advisors participate in a variety of leadership and career advancing academies.

DECA is the largest club in Wareham High School and includes roughly 20 percent of the student body. The national club spans all 50 states and nine countries.
