If you haven’t worshipped at The Community Baptist Church of Marion during the summer months, you are in for a unique experience! We begin our morning with continental breakfast at 9:00 am. Our worship service in the round begins at 9:30 am. Our services are casual, friendly, and a blend of traditional and contemporary styles.
This summer we will be learning about the Life of King David and how much we can learn from his story. You may have heard of King David; David the shepherd boy who defeated Goliath; David who played his harp to sooth King Saul or maybe David and Bathsheba. But there is much more to the life of King David. His life parallels the contradictions and conflicts in our own lives. We will be trying to answer the question: How in a world so complex and full of contradiction can we remain faithful to the call of the Christian life in a world that pushes back against the values of God’s Kingdom?
Each week we will explore a different event in the life of King David.
July 1 – Living with Despair (the Death of Saul)
How do we maintain hope is a world that seems to have lost it?
July 8 – Living with Grief (David Laments Saul and Jonathan)
How do we welcome grief into life, in a world that believes it should always be happy?
July 15 – Living with Power (David Becomes King)
How do we find contentment with the power we have been given, in a world that pushes us to grab for more?
July 22 – Living with Joy (David Dances)
How can we live with joy, in a world of complaint?
July 29 – Living with Promise (David and God’s covenant)
How can we keep our promises, in a world of deceit and pretension?
Aug 5 – Living with Temptation (David, Uriah and Bathsheba)
How can we live with self-control, in a world that says it’s okay to give in?
Aug 12 – Living with Humility (David and Nathan)
How do we take a humble posture, in a world that admires ambition and denial?
Aug 19 – Living with Regrets (David and Absalom)
How do we deal with the present when we have a past?
Aug 26 – Living with Hope (Solomon the Heir)
How do we leave a legacy, in a world that lives for the moment?
