Suspect in drive-by shooting surrenders...nobody apparently tells police

Oct 22, 2010

William Black, one of two suspects sought by police in the September 25 drive-by shooting on Cromesett Road in Wareham, turned himself in to Wareham 4th District Court on October 12...the day before police vowed that the suspects "will be caught, it's just a matter of time."

Asked on Tuesday, October 12 to provide an update on the search for the two suspects, Wareham Police Public Information Officer William Fihlman responded the next afternoon that the suspects were still on the run, but police "don't believe they are in the immediate area."

That was accurate; because Black was in Plymouth at the County House of Corrections.

The Court Clerk's office said that they don't inform the police when a suspect turns his or her self in to the District Attorney, the warrant for the suspect's arrest is only made "inactive."

The police department didn't respond to requests for comment.

Andrew Booker, the second suspect, is still at large... according to the police and the Court Clerk.
