Suspicious vehicle stop leads to drug arrest
A 20-year-old Onset man was arrested on Friday, January 27, after a Wareham police officer discovered marijuana and pain medication in the vehicle he was driving.
Officer David Simmons considered the vehicle to be suspicious after observing it in the parking lot of 7-Eleven on Cranberry Highway at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to a police statement.
Simmons stopped the vehicle on Cohasset Road and, during a conversation with the sole occupant of the vehicle, Matthew Cole of 16 Bertino Street, the officer noticed "several inconsistencies and the smell of marijuana," according to the statement.
A search of Cole and his vehicle yielded three bags of marijuana, a scale for weighing marijuana, and several pills that were identified as Percocet, according to police.
Cole was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a "Class D" substance (marijuana) and possession of a "Class B" substance (Percocet).
