Swan Festival earns Selectmen's approval, returns July 29
The Wareham Village Association’s Swan Festival returns on Saturday, July 29, after a six-year absence. Selectmen approved the association’s request to use Merchants Way and Besse Park on that day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the board’s Tuesday night meeting.
Wareham Village Association President Tracy McGraw and association board member Phyllis Decas appeared before Selectmen for approval. McGraw said 22 vendors selling food and crafts will be on hand. In Besse Park, games and activities for children will be offered.
“The response has been incredible,” said McGraw. “We’re so excited to be bringing it back.”
Board members echoed the sentiment.
Chair Peter Teitelbaum said he’s been advocating for there to be at least two festivals in Wareham Village each year. The resurgent Swan Festival will follow this weekend’s 4th annual Wareham Oyster Festival.
“It’s nice to see that the Wareham Village Association is still in the festival business,” said Teitelbaum.
McGraw said there are plans to make swan boats available for the public to ride; however, issues regarding waterfront access are still being worked out with state officials.
In any event, McGraw said she’s looking forward to seeing board members attend.
“I can’t wait to get the dunk tank and have you all up there,” said McGraw.
