Swan killed on Merchants Way
A swan was struck and killed by a car on Merchants Way on February 24. The bird was already dead when Wareham Police arrived at the scene.
In recent weeks, swans have been ruffling feathers in Wareham. On February 14, one brave bird brought traffic to halt on Main Street. The quick thinking of one driver, Brian Texiera, lured the bird out of the road with Doritos!
Food seems to be the reason why the swans continue to return to Wareham's downtown area. According to Sovereign Bank Branch Manger, Kim Hansler, the swan first appeared in the bank's parking lot earlier in the month, but came back after she believes someone fed it.
It is still unclear whether the bird killed in Thursday's accident was the same menacing swan that bothered customers at the Sovereign Bank and held up traffic on Main Street.
