Thank you from Boston Marathon runners

Apr 29, 2019

To the Editor:

We did it.  We ran 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon on Monday April 15.  Thanks to family, friends, colleagues and the Wareham Community, we raised a combined total of over $30,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  100% of every dollar we raised went directly to the awesome Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.

We ran in honor of Anthony P. Hathaway, who lost his battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of eleven, and in support of Maddie Alexander, the six-year-old daughter of our Wareham High School classmate, Dan Alexander. Maddie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2016, and is currently undergoing cutting edge treatment at Dana-Farber.  In our hearts and minds, we ran for countless numbers of family members and friends who are no longer with us and many who still struggle with this awful disease.

We held several local Wareham events that assisted us in our quest to raise our goal of $20,000; a goal which we exceeded by almost $10,000.  We would like to thank the local businesses that supported our fundraising efforts; especially Steve Baptist and the staff of the Pier View Restaurant,  and Nicole Miceli at Salerno’s Function Hall. We want to thank everyone who purchased tickets and made the events successful. We would also like to thank the donors of Silent Auction items;  Michelle Femino and Kaliedescope of Dance, Teena Flood, Eileen Grady, Russell Saunders, William Scott, and Steven Rumbolt. And thank you to the many local vendors in Wareham who supported the events with donations; AJ Marks, Aubuchon Hardware, Baileys Restaurant, California Nails, Café Soleil, Flagships Cinema, Kool Kone,  Gournet Garden, Lindseys Restaurant, The Narrows Crossing, Vels’s Restaurant, Wareham Liquors and Wines & Spirits.

We want you all to know that every step we took was a thank you for your support and a hope for a future without cancer.  Overall the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Team raised nearly $6,000,000. Thank you for helping our team give hope to so many patients and their families.
