Thanks from Veterans Day Committee

Nov 30, 2020

To the Editor:

On November 11th, Wareham celebrated Veterans Day. It was a day to acknowledge and recognize the veterans living and working in our community.

Under the direction of the Wareham Veterans Council, an organizing committee was identified and assembled to plan for and execute our traditional street parade and our outdoor ceremony.

Unfortunately our best intentions were thwarted by the Governor’s guidance regarding a public health pandemic and the subsequent restrictions caused by COVID 19.

Doing a left turn, the Committee was determined to not let the occasion go uncelebrated and decided instead to develop a virtual parade and ceremony. Thus, we ended up with an approximately two hour television presentation on Wareham Community Television.  Eventually, a static display of military and local fire equipment became an added feature of the Celebration.

We want to say thank you to the many folks who contributed their ideas, time, skills and vehicles to produce the Veterans Day Celebration for Wareham.

Our sincere thanks to the governmental and organizational representatives who participated in the Veterans Day Ceremony and the recognition they conveyed to the Veterans and young leaders of our community.

Of course we are pleased to honor Mr. Julio Roderick as the Grand Marshal for 2020.

For those who might have missed the original presentation check out Youtube, Facebook and the WCTV webpage.
