New to you books

Find something new to read without breaking the bank at the Wareham Free Library’s May book sale.

The book sale is being held over the course of three days at the library located at 59 Marion Road. The days are as follows:

Thursday, May 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday, May 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, May 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Friends of the Wareham Free Library.

Trail trimmin’

Clip, trim, prune and pull invasive plants at the Redbrook Trail Network with the Wareham Land Trust Saturday, May 31 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Tools will be provided by the land trust but volunteers can bring their own if they wish. Organizers recommend volunteers bring sunscreen, water, bug spray and appropriate woods attire.

Volunteers will meet at the Onset Water Department Office at 15 Sand Pond Road before driving out into the trail network. To register as a volunteer visit warehamlandtrust.org.

Reel good time

Grab your gear and your early morning coffee — the Tihonet Fishing Derby returns Sunday, June 1, from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Tihonet Pond. 

Sponsored by the A.D. Makepeace Company, this annual event benefits the WRGC Associate Program and promises a full day of fishing, food and family-friendly fun.

Fishing kicks off at 6 a.m., with weigh stations closing at 1:30 p.m. Boats may launch at 5:45 a.m. No gas boat engines are allowed.

In-person pre-registration runs Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at Box Mill Hall. Day-of registration and breakfast begin at 5 a.m. on derby day.

Entry fees. $15 for adults (18–59), $15 for seniors (60+), $10 for teens (13–17  and $5 for children 12 and under. Online registration is available at Event Brite. All registrations include breakfast. 

Prizes and raffles. Big fish mean big rewards — including cash prizes and a 50/50 Lunker Pool. Raffle tickets, including a $20 grand prize drawing, will be available throughout the event. Bait will be available for purchase on site.
