Thomas F. Kelly, 63, died March 11 at the Bourne Manor Nursing Home. He was known to some by his nickname, "Boxcar."

Tom was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was the beloved son of the late Arthur Francis and Dorothy Mildred (Olsen) Kelly. He was raised in Massapequa, N.Y. and attended Nassau Community College, majoring in biology.

After college Tom traveled the U.S. extensively, including to California and Hawaii, and abroad, visiting Europe, Asia, and West Africa. Travel remained one of Tom's many interests throughout his life.

Tom settled in the South Coast of Massachusetts in the 1980s and lived most recently in Bourne.

Tom had many friends in the Bourne area, including members of the police and fire Departments, parishoners at St. Margaret's and St. Peter's on the Canal, local business owners, and the staff at Turning Point.

Tom had wide interests including current events, history, finance, and geography. He was an engaging conversationalist and a very good friend. Tom will be deeply missed by his friends and neighbors.

Tom is survived by sister, Nancy Kelly of Montgomery Village, MD, and niece Marina Rose Fields of El Granada, CA. Tom was predeceased by his youngest sister Dorothy Ann (Kelly) Fields.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Peter's Church on the Canal in Buzzards Bay on Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m.

Gifts in Tom's memory may be made to the Bourne Council on Aging or to a charity of the donor's choice.
