Three cheers for trees at Arbor Day event
The Wareham Garden Club took advantage of one of the season’s first sunny days to celebrate Arbor Day on Tuesday, April 17.
The back courtyard of the Wareham Free Library hosted a talk about insects, a sapling giveaway, a bird-identification exercise and more.
Garden Club member Norma White said the event aligned with the club’s mission of education.
The club wanted to educate the youth in town — and adults as well — about trees, she said. The club mostly works with flowers and gardens, but trees do fall within its wheelhouse, she added.
Another garden club member, Bunny Hayes, took her grandchildren Samara Hayes and Zachary Foggie to the event.
Bunny said she took them to the event to celebrate Earth Day and to have them learn about the world, including bird cries with the Wareham Land Trust.
Zachary said he also learned about nature, and Samara added that she learned about plants.
The kids each had sunflower seeds in small pots, each painted with their own designs.
