Tobey Hospital recognized as leader in supporting nurses

Tobey Hospital recently received the Pathways to Excellence designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, making them one of the state’s leading hospitals when it comes to supporting their nursing staff.
Tobey is now the fourth hospital in the state to receive the designation which it earned by implementing wellbeing initiatives for nurses and involving nurses in a variety of hospital decisions.
“The hospital launched unit-based councils so each nursing unit is self-governing,” said Southcoast Health Manager of Corporate Communications Tom Revine. “The hospital also instituted reiki for nurses which is a form of therapeutic message.”
Tobey joins Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River as the two Southcoast hospitals to receive the designation and Tobey is the only hospital to receive distinction with their award.
Earning the Pathways to Excellence designation with distinction means that many of the nurses at Tobey said the hospital puts them first in a survey.
Tobey began working to earn this designation starting in May 2023 and its success will be used as a blueprint for St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford to try and earn the same designation.
