Town Administrator proposes combining leadership positions

Feb 3, 2016

Wareham could be combining some services in the near future.

In his Town Administrator’s report at the Board of Selectman’s weekly Tuesday meeting, Derek Sullivan said he was “thinking of combining” the Director position of the town’s Community Economic Development Authority with the Planning Director position.

Both positions are being filled on an interim basis, with David Pichette currently serving as Planning Director and Peter Sanborn as the CEDA Director after Director Salvador Pina stepped down in 2015.

Sullivan said that combining the CEDA position, which was created in 2004 in Wareham, with the Planning Director, it would potentially give the town access to grants it would hot have access to in the past.

He said he would reach out to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development just to “see if they take issue with it,” and that in the past, the two positions had been previously merged.

The Selectmen present seemed to support Sullivan’s ideas for combining the positions. No vote was taken regarding the matter.
