Town Administrator's contract renewed for three years: $145,000 for the first year

Mar 30, 2016

July 1 marks the beginning of Derek Sullivan's fourth year as Town Administrator and the start of a new three-year contract.

The contract promises Sullivan $145,000 for the first fiscal year. This amount will increase by 2.5 percent (a total of $148,625) for the next year, and another 2.5 percent ($152,340) in the final year, ending on June 30, 2019.

Sullivan's current salary is set at $140,000.

"I want to commend Mr Sullivan because he came in... and he knows there's not a lot of money to go around," said Chairman Patrick Tropeano. "He didn't come in asking for a ton of money. He came in reasonable and was a pleasure to negotiate with, frankly. And we're glad to have him for the next three years and this town should be glad to have him for the next three years."

Tropeano pointed out examples of salaries paid to Town Administrators in Plymouth, which he said was about $190,000, and Sandwich, approximately $170,000.

"Believe me, we are getting a bargain," said Tropeano.

The Selectmen voted to approve the contract unanimously on Tuesday night.
