Town and emergency officials 'ready to go' in the event of a hurricane
Town and emergency officials began discussions about hurricane response procedures during a meeting at the Onset Fire Department on Friday, August 12.
"It's good to renew, refresh, get some ideas" about what can be done in response to a hurricane, Town Administrator Mark Andrews said to a room filled with representatives from the Wareham and Onset fire departments Wareham Police and Wareham EMS, as well as town officials who would be crucial in the aftermath of a hurricane.
The group convened last August after meteorologists predicted Hurricane Earl could hit the area. Earl never arrived.
Officials are beginning preparations so a plan will be in place should a hurricane affect the town this year. Meteorologists say the region is "due" for a storm.
"It's comforting to know that we are coming together before a threat," said Wareham Fire Chief Robert McDuffy.
All parties expressed that they were "ready to go" should a natural disaster occur, having been preparing within their individual departments for some time.
The members of the group will reconvene at a later date to provide updates.
