Town releases transportation road map

Jan 30, 2023

The town of Wareham has posted an interactive map where residents can explain their issues with, and give recommendations for, roads and intersections in town.

The website can be found at https://www.wareham.ma.us/planning-and-community-development/pages/wareham-complete-streets

The website is part of the town’s recently-announced Complete Streets program, which will use state grant money to investigate possible improvements to transportation in Wareham.

The town received the money in December, courtesy of the MassDOT Complete Streets Plan. The Complete Streets Plan awards grant money to towns across the state, which then use the money to identify and address transportation needs in their communities.

Once the town of Wareham identifies those needs, it can spend $500,000 in previously-awarded state grant money to pay for necessary changes.

In the next few months, the town will research safety data and drive on major roads to assess sidewalk quality, accessibility for people with disabilities, sign visibility, walkability and bike access.
