Town to request funds for Hynes Field improvements

May 18, 2021

The Road Commissioners voted on May 17 to support a grant application from the town that would improve the Hynes Field parking lot in Onset.

Director of Municipal Maintenance Dave Menard said his department designed the parking lot to include 97 parking spaces, a GATRA bus stop, and a rain garden close to the wetlands.

“We just tried to divvy it up to get as many spaces as we could and still have that rain garden in the back,” Menard said.

Handicap spaces will be located next to Onset Avenue.

“Looks good, Dave,” said commission member Marie Gregg.

The town will request $100,000 from the Shared Streets and Spaces Program, which is meant to promote public health, renewed commerce, and safe public spaces for socially-distanced use.
