As Governor Charlie Baker announced aggressive new measures to mitigate the impact of coronavirus on the state, so did local officials.

Baker announced that all schools in the state will be closed through April 7, that all gatherings of more than 25 people are banned, and that restaurants can only serve food for take-out or delivery, starting Tuesday.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan is closing all town buildings, including the Town Hall, to the public, starting immediately.

“We do not take these measures lightly and understand that they can be disruptive to the residents of our community,” Sullivan said. “However, we believe them to be the correct ones for the safety of our residents, staff, volunteers, and board members.”

The Onset Fire Department reported on Sunday that the command staff are working with state and local officials to deal with the developing situation, and have made changes to staffing and response guidelines to ensure continued service to the community.

The Wareham Police Department has asked that anyone who dials 911 or the business line for police, EMS, or fire response advise communications officers of any flu-like symptoms or contact with those who may have the coronavirus.
