Toys for Tots receives $1,340 donation from Elks
A new tradition has taken hold at the Wareham/New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73.
On Wednesday afternoon, members donated $1,340 to the Massachusetts State Police to support its Toys for Tots program on Wednesday afternoon.
“If it wasn’t for the members we wouldn’t be able to do this,” said Jonie Hackett. “I’m very proud to be an Elk.”
For the past four years, lodge members have collected money by selling holiday stockings that are hung inside the lodge’s members lounge. Hackett noted that more than $5,000 has been raised and donated to Toys for Tots throughout the years.
On hand to receive the donation were two State Police lieutenants, Michael Michno and James Plath who are from the North Dartmouth and Bourne barracks, respectively.
Every year, the Massachusetts State Police partners with the U.S. Marine Corps, which hosts the nationwide Toys for Tots program, to collect toys for children in need.
Also on hand to present the donation on behalf of the Elks were Past Exalted Ruler Sue Gifford and Acting Exalted Ruler Donna Allen.
