Update: Transfer station, parts of West Wareham without power due to damage caused by high winds
Parts of West Wareham and the transfer station are currently without power due to high winds knocking down an energy pole Friday, Dec. 19, according to Wareham Emergency Management Director Calib LaRue.
LaRue said the transfer station will be closed for the rest of the day and he hopes to get the station up and running sometime tomorrow.
Currently, Cranberry Highway is closed from 2200 Cranberry Highway up to Doty Street. Everyone is asked to avoid the area until the roadway opens up again.
LaRue said crews from the police and Eversource are in town assessing the extent of the damage. According to Eversource, 1,401 households as of 2:48 p.m. are without power.
LaRue said most of the outages are located in the Shangrila neighborhood and first responders are looking into the cause of the outages. He added there is no estimated time when power will be fully restored.
