The Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center at 605 Main Street has restricted visitors to the facility as of 6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in an attempt to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. 

According to a post on the center’s Facebook page, exceptions may be made depending on the patient’s current health state, such as allowing people to visit their loved ones in hospice care. 

As of March 11, The Tremont Center’s policy was to screen visitors for coronavirus symptoms, but not to restrict all visitors in general. 

According to Tim Brown, the Director of Marketing and Communications for Tremont’s parent company, Athena Health Care Systems, the policy changed on March 12 in light of the growing number of coronavirus cases in Massachusetts.

“It’s a tough situation for families not to be able to visit their loved ones,” Brown said of restrictions, but he added that phone calls and facetime videos can be accommodated at the center.

In addition to the restrictions, Brown said that the center is being cleaned frequently to prevent the spread of disease. 

He said that the center serves a “frail population” at heightened risk to the virus, and that he, and others in his company want to “keep them safe and healthy.”
