Turkeys find good homes for Thanksgiving

Teamwork makes the dream work
Nov 23, 2015

Volunteers at the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene of Wareham helped make the Thanksgiving holiday a little easier for local residents Saturday by giving over 240 turkeys away.

The volunteers from Turning Point, which is run by Wareham Area for the Homeless, started at 11 a.m. By 2 p.m., they had either handed out or delivered the turkeys to people who signed up or requested them.

Ellie Keenan, a Turning Point board member, explained this is the first year that Turning Point has run the event.  In previous years, it was run by Community Resource Center.

Turning Point volunteers were joined by volunteers from Baby Point, another nonprofit run by Wareham Area for the Homeless, as well as a sturdy team of seventh and eighth graders who were recruited to do the heavy turkey lifting. Izak Salam, an eighth grader, provided the motto for the group: "Teamwork makes the dream work!"

Keenan said they delivered several turkeys to some older members who were unable to drive the the Church.

"It was so much fun to surprise them," Keenan said.

The turkeys were donated by Tom Lange Company of Fairhaven, The PoundMixed Martial Arts, and by a number of individuals.
