Seventy-five people hit the links at the Little Harbor Golf Club to help the homeless on Saturday by participating in the fourth annual benefit tournament for Turning Point.

The Wareham-based nonprofit offers services for homeless and low-income individuals living in town and surrounding communities. Turning Point offers assistance with getting and keeping housing, emergency food and clothing provisions, referrals and more.

Rick Duffy, a member of Turning Point’s Board of Directors, said the event one of the group's major fundraisers, and each year, it’s gotten bigger and better.

During the tournament’s first year, $3,400 was raised. In following years that number rose to $4,200, then $4,800 and last year’s total was $5,000.

“We hope to raise even more this year,” said Duffy.

In addition to offering 18 holes of golf, several skills contest were part of the event, including a putting contest, closest to the pin contest, longest driver and more.

One of the major prizes was a golf package, which included rounds at Little Harbor, Willowbend Country Club, White Cliffs Country Club and the Harmon Golf & Fitness Club. Duffy noted that prize is worth more than $1,500.

Duffy extended thanks to volunteers from Turning Point and Father Bill’s & MainSpring who helped make the day a success. The day wouldn’t have been possible without them, said Duffy.

“We wish to thank Little Harbor Golf Club for everything they do for us and of course all the community members and organizations who help us out,” said Duffy. “We couldn’t do any of this without them.”
