Two Gatemen selected to All-League Team

Aug 17, 2010

The season may be over, but Wareham Gatemen are still accruing honors as outfielder Zach Wilson, of Arizona State, and pitcher Max Perlman, of Harvard, were named to the 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League's All-League team.

Wilson, who was named MVP of the victorious West Division team at the All-Star Game at Fenway, ended the season with a .294 batting average and led the team with 5 home runs. Although originally signed as a third baseman, he was moved to left field early in the season and quickly adapted to the position.

Right-handed pitcher Perlman also was named to the All-Star team, where he threw a scoreless inning. He led the team in ERA with1.92 and was second in strikeouts and wins, a tremendous record after he missed last season with a shoulder injury. Perlman received the Albert Bigelow Award, which is given to the team's most outstanding pitcher.

A total of 24 players were selected to the elite squard, with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and the Orleans Firebirds each represented by four players. The lone representative from the Cape League champion Cotuit Kettleers was starting pitcher Austin Wood, from St. Petersburg, who went 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA this season.
