It was a lucky day for Wareham's own Cindy Gibbs and Tracy Phipps of Marion on Wednesday. The sisters won a $10,000 raffle at the "Simply White" event hosted by the Cape Cod Canal Chamber of Commerce.

Both were greeted with a roar of applause when they were announced as winners.

"I think we're gonna put it away for travel; that's what I'm going to do," said Phipps, who owns a vending business.

The Simply White raffle event was one of the biggest fundraisers for the group, said Cape Cod Canal Chamber of Commerce President Marie Oliva. Two hundred and twenty tickets were sold at $100 each, and guests were allowed to bring another person with them. At the Bay Pointe Club, more than a couple hundred people made business connections and enjoyed food, drinks and music by Lee Surrette.

"It's the first one we've ever done. We found it all in all to be a very successful event," said Oliva."I think a lot of people really had a lot of fun and enjoyed themselves."

Oliva thanked Bay Pointe for the venue and for donating the food.

Cotuit resident Juanita Guess said that although she came to the event to network, she didn't make as many business connections as she'd hoped to because she ended up enjoying the event so much.

The event was modeled after a similar one hosted by the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce.

Other raffle winners included: Don King and Diana Scolponeti who won $500 each, and Bob Cronin who won $1,000.
