Unwanted Wareham dogs headed to Lakeville shelter for another year
Wareham's homeless pups will continue to be brought to the Lakeville Animal Shelter for the upcoming year.
At Tuesday's Selectmen meeting, a unanimous vote meant unwanted dogs in town will be brought to Lakeville, as has been the case for at least five years.
"Our Department of Natural Resources does a really good job of picking up animals that have been thrown away," Selectman Judith Whiteside said. "On a daily basis, there are animals being discarded and it's wrong."
The shelter charges a reasonable rate to take the dogs, Selectman Alan Slavin said, since Wareham doesn't have a proper facility for them.
"Don't buy your kids a puppy or a kitty for Christmas, go to the pound," Whiteside said.
