Jan 19, 2016

Lashii Ortiz, 20, who was wanted by the Wareham Police Department for his alleged involvement in a shooting on Martin Street on Jan. 11, turned himself in at Wareham District Court Tuesday afternoon, according to the Wareham Police Department.

The shooting, which police said was not random, happened around 7 p.m. at 88 Martin St. Police said a caller reported shots were fired at an adult male resident, just outside the house. There were no reported injuries at the scene.

Police said an initial investigation showed an adult male was shot at twice with a small caliber handgun by another male during an argument. Police said the two shots missed the man, who retreated into the house as the suspect fled the scene in a car. Police said investigation shows the incident was not a random shooting, because the suspect purposely came to the house to speak with its residents.

Ortiz has been charged with the following offenses: assault with intent to murder with a firearm; carrying a firearm without a license; possession of ammunition without an FID card; and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a residence.

Police said they do not know when his next court appearance will be.
