Update: basketball battles against Bourne
While the girls basketball team fell to Bourne on Tuesday night, the boys team used home court to their advantage to secure a 78-70 victory.
"We allowed an early lead to slip away, but made some timely plays down the stretch to seal the victory," coach Kevin Brogioli said. "Mason Vasconcellos hit a big three pointer with a minute left in the game on a set play after a timeout."
Brogioli added that there were 65 fouls called in this game.
Mason Vasconcellos and Andy White each scored 18 points to help Wareham maintain its perfect 4-0 record in South Coast Conference play (5-1 overall).
Four Wareham players scored in double digits in a game where the teams were whistled for a combined 65 fouls.
The girls suffered a 60-39 loss at Bourne that ended their three game winning streak and brought their SCC record to 5-2 (5-3 overall).
Wareham only scored 7 points in the first quarter and was never able to recover.
"The better team won," coach Dave Brogioli said. "We now know where we need to be."
Both teams will play Case on Friday, Jan. 10. The girls will play at home and the boys will be on the road.
