UPDATE: Beaches in Onset reopen to swimmers

Jun 23, 2014

Beaches and shellfishing areas in Onset Bay reopened to swimmers Wednesday afternoon after a temporary ban on bathing and shellfishing was lifted.

The ban was set by the Wareham Board of Health after between 2,000 and 3,000 gallons of waste spilled into Onset Bay on Monday, June 23. Officials said thousands of gallons of waste was released from a sewer manhole cover on Independence Lane in Onset and entered the bay from an adjacent storm drain.
