UPDATE: Chalk Festival rescheduled for Aug. 30
Due to the weather, the second annual Onset Chalk Festival, scheduled to be held last weekend, was postponed to Sunday, Aug. 30.
"Difficult to make a decision for today. We are canceling the Chalk Fest for today and will work on an alternate date," read a post on the group's Facebook page on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 23.
The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, but was moved to the rain date of Aug. 23, in hopes of being held in better weather.
The Chalk Festival is an event that began last year, where everyone from featured street artists to local residents can come and create chalk art on the sidewalks winding through the park above the Onset Bandshell.
Even though the event didn't take place last weekend, some intrepid artists decided to add some color to the streets of Onset anyway.
About a dozen paintings were created on the sidewalks surrounding the bandshell Sunday morning. Only a shade of what the official event would look like, the chalk creations kept the spirit of the event alive.
For the Aug. 30 event, the price for a square and pastel chalk is $5 for artists who wish to participate; kids who want to join in can get a quarter square and playground chalk for $2.
