Skeletal human remains have been discovered near Cranberry Plaza in East Wareham, the Wareham Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police reported. 

An individual looking for a lost item in a wooded area near the plaza, which includes Stop & Shop and other stores, reportedly found human remains on Monday, Oct. 21. The remains were concealed by the heavy vegetation. At approximately 12:13 p.m patrol officers and detectives responded to the call. 

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner took jurisdiction and will determine the cause and manner of death. Preliminary, the bones appear to be male and there are no indications of foul play in the death.

It is unknown how long the body has been there, the police said. The investigation is ongoing.
