UPDATE: Wareham tow truck driver in critical condition after being hit by car

A tow truck driver from Wareham is in critical condition, after being struck while helping another driver on I-495 northbound in Middleboro at 12:39 a.m. Sunday, according to reports.

Jonathan Tetreault, 33, of Wareham, has been identified as the driver of the tow truck. A family member has set up a Gofundme page to benefit Tetreault.

Massachusetts State Police said the driver was helping a disabled motorist just north of Exit 4, when another driver hit both the 33-year-old tow truck driver and the disabled car.

The tow truck driver suffered life-threatening injuries, and was take to a Rhode Island hospital. A 29-year-old Dorchester driver, and a 32-year-old passenger in the car that hit the tow truck driver were also hospitalized. Their conditions are unknown.

Broadcast reports said that witnesses believe the car may have been going too quickly.

As of Monday, State Police said the driver is still in the hospital, and the investigation is ongoing.
