Upper Cape Tech to lift mask requirement

Feb 16, 2022

Wearing masks will become optional at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School starting Feb. 28, superintendent Roger Forget announced on Wednesday.

This announcement came after the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley said the statewide mask requirement would be lifted for K-12 schools on the last day of the month.

“A face covering that covers the nose and mouth is strongly recommended to be worn by individuals who remain unvaccinated or are otherwise immunocompromised in school buildings and on school grounds, even when social distancing is observed,” Forget’s statement reads on the website.

Masks will still be required in all school health offices or for people returning from a five-day quarantine following a positive Covid-19 test, Forget said.

As the mask requirement on school buses is a federal public health order, masks will still be required for all on school transportation.

The Wareham School Committee is set to discuss a mask policy for the town’s school district at a Feb. 17 meeting.
