With video: Woman uninjured after vehicle plunges into water
A Pinehurst Beach woman was unharmed when the Cadillac she was driving failed to stop, rolled down a small hill at the side of her home, and plunged into the ocean on Friday afternoon.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Blue Jay Terrace and Pinehurst Drive.
The woman told emergency officials that she could not get the car to stop. Wareham EMS treated her at the scene.
No fuel or oil spilled in the accident or when the car was being removed from the water. The Harbormaster Department was on-scene in case of any leakage.
Wareham Fire Department also responded, along with Wareham Police.
Marc's Auto Service removed the vehicle from the water. The job took two men and two tow trucks.
Asked if he'd ever seen anything like the scene at Pinehurst Beach Friday, Marc Whitney Jr. of Marc's Auto Service said: "Not in awhile!"
His father, Marc Whitney Sr., added: "Only in the summertime. ... People will be launching a boat and then launch the boat, the car, and the trailer."
The scene was cleared after a couple of hours.
"At least it makes for an interesting day," said Marc Whitney Sr. before towing the car away.
